Croatia is less popular than many other European countries, but it has many beautiful places that are definitely worth visiting!
Dubrovnik is a popular city with many old buildings that underwent a lot of damage after the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Many buildings were damaged due to shelling.In the old town, a lot of the buildings still have bullet holes! However, in a relatively short time, these buildings were restored very well, and the city remains a popular tourist destination.
Dubrovnik is one of the places where Game of Thrones was filmed, so you can see one of the castles that was in Game of Thrones! Visiting this castle also presents a nice view of the old town.
While in Dubrovnik my family and I did an 8 kilometer kayak trip! None of us were familiar with kayaking, so the trip was quite the adventure. We went around Lokrum Island and then back to Dubrovnik after a short food break. On the way we occasionally stopped and heard stories from the guides.
One day trip you can take in Dubrovnik is a boat ride to Lokrum. The island is only a 15 minute ferry ride away! It’s known for having many peacocks just walking around randomly. There’s also a legend that whoever lives on Lokrum will get very bad luck! You can hang out near the beach and swim in a lake with lots of salt that resembles the dead sea.
Dubrovnik is a popular destination for cruises, so if you are visiting you may want to check when the cruises are coming to avoid huge crowds (they usually dock at around the same time)!
Split is another scenic city in Croatia. There are many beautiful buildings with red roofs!
From Split, you can take a boat trip to see the blue cave, which is a cave with glowing blue water! There is a rather long boat ride there, but it is a very unique sight to see.
There are also many nearby islands that have nices views or beaches. At Hvar you can hike up to the fortress above the city and see a view of the city and the ocean.
You can also visit Plitvice Lakes National Park, which has many beautiful lakes and waterfalls!

My family and I went for a day trip and took a path similar to the trails in the above map. We took a bus to the top (the cyan path) and hiked down from there (the purple path). Since most people get off near the front of the park (Entrance 1), there were less people where we were. We also took a dirt trail through the forest where we got great views of the lakes and avoided crowds!
After getting a nice view of the lakes, we took a boat ride and walked along wooden platforms on top of the water, which is what the park is famous for.
Croatia is definitely a great place to visit!
Wow! I’ve never been Croatia, but now I want to go! It looks a lot like France (at least to me.) That kayaking trip sounds like a lot of fun—was it cold there?

Going to Croatia is a great idea!! I suppose the red roofs next to the ocean to seem to resemble some parts of coastal France. We went to Croatia in the summer, so it wasn’t cold at all.
The photos are taken by my dad! He’d be happy to hear that you like them. The blue cave glows because there is a underwater hole through which sunlight can enter. The sunlight reflects off the limestone of the cave floor, which causes the glow! Thank you for reading this post!!
